CHICAGO -- Senior midfielder Stanton Coville (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) scored two goals and assisted on another as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated Concordia University Chicago 4-0 Thursday night at Stagg Field.
Chicago, which snapped a five-game losing streak, scored the only goal it would need in the 13th minute on senior midfielder Alan Pikna's (Wauwatosa, Wis./ West) fifth goal of the season. Pikna took a feed from freshman forward Kyle Kurfirst (Western Springs, Ill./ Lyons) and slipped a shot past Cougar netminder John Gehm.
Coville made it 2-0 in the 37th minute on a shot from 10 yards out off an assist from freshman forward Nic Lopez (Tulsa, Okla./ Cascia Hall).
Coville tallied his second goal of the game and eighth of the season just 39 seconds into the second period. Kurfirst collected his second assist of the evening as he fed Coville in the box.
Junior midfielder Steven Chase (Cumberland, Maine/ Greely) capped the scoring off an assist from Coville in the 52nd minute. Chase's goal was his third of the year.
Chicago (6-6-2) outshot the Cougars by a 25-4 margin. Gehm made several point blank stops to keep Concordia (3-13-1) in the match in the first half. He finished the night with six saves.
Freshman Elek Lane (Eau Claire, Wis./ Memorial) made one save in 87 minutes for the Maroons, before giving way to sophomore Mason Harless (Plymouth, Minn./ Robbinsdale Armstrong) for the final 2:53.
Thursday's match marked the first meeting between the two schools.
The Maroons host the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in their final non-conference game of the year Sunday at 1 p.m.
