ELMHURST, Ill. -- The 25th-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team won twice on the second and final day of the Elmhurst College Invitational Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Chicago opened the day with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 win over John Carroll University (2-1).
Junior middle blocker Caroline Brander (River Forest, Ill./ Trinity) hit eight kills in 14 attempts without an error for a .571 percentage. Senior outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) collected seven kills, while junior middle blocker Katie Trela (Glencoe, Ill./ Regina Dominican) finished with three blocks.
The Maroons hit at a .282 clip, marking their best performance of the young season.
Three Maroons hit double-digit kills as Chicago capped the event with a 27-25, 25-21, 25-17 win over Capital University (1-2).
Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Clark (Purcellville, Va./ Loudon Valley) (pictured) hit a team-high 11 kills, while Smalls and senior outside hitter Colleen Belak (Louisville, Ky./ Presentation) each added 10.
Junior libero Samantha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy Academy) contributed a season-high 21 digs.
Belak and Smalls represented Chicago on the all-tournament team.
Chicago returns to action Tuesday night at Illinois Wesleyan University.
