Maroons Place 5th at Illinois Intercollegiate Meet

NORMAL, Ill. -- Led by junior Billy Whitmore (Rocky River, Ohio/ St. Ignatius) and senior Mahmoud Bahrani (Vernon Hills, Ill./ Vernon Hills), the 21st-ranked University of Chicago men's cross country team placed fifth among 32 teams at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by Illinois State University.

The meet featured teams from all NCAA Divisions as well as the NAIA.

North Central College, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, won the meet with 48 points. Loyola University Chicago (72), the University of Illinois-Chicago (112), Eastern Illinois University (149), and Chicago (153) rounded out the top five.

Whitmore and Bahrani crossed the line in ninth and 10th place with respective eight-kilometer times of 24:48 and 24:52.

Junior Isaac Dalke (Portland, Ore./ Lincoln) finished in 32nd place with a time of 25:16.

North Central's Matthew Perez's 24:32 performance led the 323-runner field.

The Maroons return to action Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Loyola University Lakefront Invitational.
