CHICAGO -- Sophomore midfielder Claire Mackevicius' (Belmont, Mass./ Belmont) goal in the 88th minute lifted the 20th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Dominican University Sunday at Stagg Field.
With the score even at 2-2 and overtime looming, Mackevicius took a pass from freshman forward Meghan Derken (Madison, Conn./ Hand) and fired a shot past Dominican goalkeeper Megan Schulz with 2:53 left in the contest.
The teams traded goals in the game's first 10 minutes. After Chicago freshman forward Sara Kwan (Irvine, Calif./ University) converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute for her first career goal, Dominican answered in the 10th minute on the first of Ashley Meyer's two scores.
Chicago (2-0) went ahead in the 39th minute when senior forward Allison Hegel (Vienna, Va./ Jefferson) notched her first goal of the season. Derken collected the assist, the first of two on the day.
Meyer tied the game at 2-2 in the 74th minute following a scramble in front of the Chicago net resulting from a Dominican corner kick, its only one of the afternoon.
Chicago outshot the Stars (0-2) 16-3, but saw its seven-game shutout streak come to an end. Dominican's first goal was the first by a Chicago opponent in 757 minutes dating back to last season.
The Maroons play their first road game of the season Wednesday when they travel to Holland, Michigan, to face Hope College at 4 p.m. (ET).
