CHICAGO -- Senior Allison Hegel's (Vienna, Va./ Jefferson) goal in the 82nd minute lifted the 19th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Carthage College Tuesday at Stagg Field.
Freshman Ellie von Storch (Charlottesville, Va./ Charlottesville) slipped a pass to Hegel (pictured), who then sent a shot into the lower right corner of the net with 8:49 remaining in the contest. The goal was Hegel's team-leading sixth of the year and her third game-winner.
Chicago, which snapped a three-game home winless streak, outshot the Lady Reds (4-6-1) by a 21-3 margin.
Senior goalkeeper Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) collected two saves to notch her fifth shutout of the year and 24th of her career, tying her for the second-most in Chicago history.
Carthage netminder Angela Spinelli made four saves, and Lady Red defenders stopped three other shots.
Chicago (6-3-1) travels to Pittsburgh to face University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University Sunday afternoon in the first of a four-match road swing.
