Women's Cross Country Places 12th at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The 32nd-ranked University of Chicago women's cross country team finished 12th out of 43 teams at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational Saturday.

The meet, held on the course that will serve as the site for the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, featured nine top-25 ranked teams and was the largest event in Division III this season.

Senior Rachel Ohman (Solana Beach, Calif./ Torrey Pines) (pictured) paced the Maroons, finishing ninth out of 395 runners with a six-kilometer time of 22:22. Senior Jane Simpson (Western Springs, Ill./ Lyons Township) placed 45th with a time of 23:00.

Chicago's next three finishers were senior Sonia Khan (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Hoffman Estates) (80th place, 23:26), junior Sarah Peluse (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Buffalo Grove) (100th, 23:39), and sophomore Micaela Whitelaw (Swarthmore, Pa./ Strath Haven) (111th, 23:45).

Third-ranked Washington (Mo.) University won the meet with 61 points. Chicago totaled 336.

The Maroons return to action Friday at North Central.
